As a business owner and member of the Abilene Chamber, I have nothing but praise for them. The staff is AMAZING and has such a huge love for all the businesses and people in the community!! I also have the pleasure of serving with the Redcoat Ambassadors, who are an incredible group of volunteers who take time out of their busy work schedules to show new businesses and long time businesses love and support. With COVID, we have so missed the opportunity to show that love and cannot wait to do so again. I have lived in Abilene my entire 41 years. I have run a very successful business with my father for the last 15. The Chamber is ALL about building leaders, and supporting local business. I would and do tell every business I come in contact with to become a member to see for themselves.

I have been a member of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce since 1999. The team there is fantastic to work with and they truly look out for their members. I highly encourage anyone who does business in or around Abilene to be a member. They also have a phenomenal Leadership Abilene program that brings together up and coming community leaders in order to build up Abilene and make it great.

Can't say much about the Chamber, but this is not a friendly place. Last August 28, while traveling through Kansas on vacation, I purchased a large antique table at the Abilene Downtown Antique Mall. The staff were kind and assured me there would be help on hand when I could return with a pick up truck months later to collect my purchase. They were kind enough to hold my purchase for over 90 days until I could return from out of state with a pick up truck to load it.

I called the store on Tuesday, Dec 9 and told them I would be in early morning Friday December 12 to pick it up. The woman I spoke with said her boss might be leaving Friday, but she would call me right back.

Wednesday, no return call.

Then I called them on Thursday morning (Dec 11) to reconfirm pick up time, but was told that Thursday as well as Friday, Saturday --not until Monday--would there be anyone there to help me load it. The assistant was very kind, suggested I call their "neighboring RVH Hardware Store to see if they could spare a man." I called them, the woman in charge said did have some workers, but they "were busy" both Thursday and Friday. Her voice did not sound encouraging: That she didn't want to be helpful was obvious; but whether because relations between RHV Hardware and Abilene Downtown Antique Mall were not harmonious or that RHV hardware store does not like to encourage commerce with outsiders is mute. Point is I made my purchase in reliance upon people's word and kept in touch with the store over the past three months about pick up. Point is I drove back from Arizona just to pick up the table.

The point is I would almost pay anyone to go pick up my table, drag it by chain and rope down main street Abilene and load what is left of it once outside Abilene city limits. If I fail to locate any helpful humans then I would just drag it out of state and burn what's left as soon as I reach Colorado.

My honest summation to anyone traveling the interstate, to all good intentioned souls visiting the Eisenhower Museum, or unsuspecting retirees with a few hours and hundreds of dollars to kill: Avoid this place unless you are looking for surly merchants with too much business and too little time to waste promoting commerce.
