I made a reservation for a Hostel in Berlin based on the information from their website that the earliest check-in was at midnight (00:00). Upon arriving in Berlin our reservation could not be found anywhere in the months of April, May, or June. While we were able to get a room we have so far been unable to get a deposit back. They have not addressed at all that they never actually told the Hostel we were coming, only using information that "we were not checking in at the right time" to try and not return our money.

The information they are using to say we did not check-in at the right time is not even on their website.

TL;dr
Never told Hostel we were coming. Tried to justify no refund using unpublished check-in/check-out hours (not the ones on THEIR website). Have not yet apologized for not even letting the Hostel know.

Never before have I had such terrible customer service. Extremely rude staff who were less than willing to help. I booked for a group trip, however after a few hours I was told by a few in the group that they unfortunately had to drop out. Upon contacting Hostelbookers they told me that "there's nothing we can do" and that they had taken the deposit money. The reason they provided was that they act as a middle man and have already given the money to the hostel. When I spoke to the hostel, it was clear that this was a total lie. If I had booked straight with the hostel, my entire deposit would have been completely refundable. The hostelbookers website works as a hostel search engine, but always get in contact with the hostel directly to actually book. Hostelbookers provide no extra protection and are staffed by liars and cheats. DO NOT USE HOSTELBOOKERS.

Try to avoid using these people if you can, very poor customer service. They will fob you off and direct you to contacting the hotel or hostel instead of sorting anything themselves, when the hotels have been instructed that everything should go through Hostel Bookers. Are also very unwilling to refund deposits and inflexible in their approach.

By all means use them as a search engine, but direct booking through hotels is recommended.

Weeks after Hostelbookers confirmed my reservation I contacted the property and was told that they did not deal with Hostelbookers! Unfortuately by then the town was fully booked! Do NOT use this agency!
